Alternative investments
Also called non-traditional investments. This collective term covers a wide range of investments, the prices of which develop largely independently of traditional investment prices (shares, bonds, money market etc.). Alternative investments include hedge funds, private equity, raw materials (through to water, electricity and CO2 certificates), real estate, insurance risks (insurance-linked investments), certain fixed-income investments (e.g. convertibles, inflation-linked bonds, hybrid bonds), securitized credit risks, currencies and volatility as well as art and other collectibles.
